Is it irresponsible to relax and let things go their own way?
OR is relaxing the most responsible thing you can do... sometimes... or ALL the time?
When last we saw Ruby she was shirking her responsibility around finding a new job. Not intentionally. Just because other, more fun things came up and she followed where they led her.
She’s still following and finding out where they’ll lead her…..
Ruby’s doing great.
I don’t care that she’s not doing what she “should” be doing — finding a job. I care more that she’s got engaging ways of bringing herself into the moment — ways of being in and appreciating the minutia of her life.
Isn’t that THE POINT?
Sure, she’s going to need a job. But she also needs what she’s doing now.
She NEEDS to experiment with putting herself IN her life.
She NEEDS to discover what really matters to her.
She NEEDS to live life on her own terms.
She NEEDS to come up with ways that reliably bring her into THE RIGHT NOW.
She NEEDS to play with the basics of reality.
How about you?
Do you take time to play with the basics of reality?
Do you have fun ways of bringing yourself into THE RIGHT NOW? Do you have ways of keeping yourself there a little longer?
Do you practice these ways of bringing yourself into THE RIGHT NOW on a regular basis… maybe even multiple times a day?
Do you do it for no other reason than you can?
Ruby goes so far as to formalize Catching Slack by breaking it out into super simple steps she can check in with herself to see if she’s doing…….
Let’s Tap
How about if we turn the how-to of Catching Slack into a tapping script?
Catching Slack – Playing Your Way Into the Present
I give myself permission to slow down
maybe even way down
To slow down is to surrender
surrender the need to “do”
surrender the need to “control”For a minute or two I give myself permission
to let go a little
so I can see what happens
when I just “let things go their own way”I use my breath to help me
slow down
surrender
let things go their own way
breathing in, I know that I am breathing in
breathing out, I know that I am breathing out
Noticing my breath is a good trick
It changes something in my body
in my mindI feel my body and my mind go “slack”
more relaxed, more let go
Making it fun to observe
Just observe
Like I’m a witness to something
It’s fun to “catch”
all the sights, sounds, and smells I canIt’s fun to open myself
to whatever is there
and see what I can “catch” with my sensesIt’s fun to relax into my experience
and do nothing more than
let what wants to happen, happen
just for a minute or two
Or longer
When you stop tapping, just “be with what is” and notice what’s there now… in your body, in your mind. Enjoy what’s there now.
Thanks for tapping along!
Join me next week when Ruby’s game playing is interrupted by inconvenient realities — like a body’s need to be fed.
P.S.
Here’s easy access to earlier Installments of Ruby’s Very Good Thing if you need to do a little filling in….
These tapping rituals have become my meditations!
