"Don't hesitate 'cause the world seems cold"
Installment 3 of Ruby's Life ~ where we take a look at Resistance, Surrender, and the Magic of Perspective
When I see who my readership is, I feel inspired and end up writing better knowing who’s on the receiving end of what I’m creating. A HUGE thank you to the smart, cool, inspiring people who take the time to read EFT Tapping with Ruby!
And here we are in Installment 3 of “Ruby’s Life”…
In installment 1 - So Beautiful, So Scary - Ruby has the feeling of being on the outside of her life looking in. She wonders why something so beautiful as a life should scare her. It feels more like a burden than a gift.
In installment 2 - When Life Feels Too Big - “I can’t!” energy overwhelms her and she spirals into helplessness. But, oddly, it’s by fully going ‘there’ that shifts things for her.
When last we saw her she was wondering…
There’s an opening now where there wasn’t one before, but… what will she DO with the opening?
Does that seem a little too facile?
It does to me, too. I must have fast-forwarded through all the unproductive inner-angst that went on between wondering about a way back in and getting up to the base of that ladder.
Although maybe…
Maybe a shift CAN be that clear, that direct, that actionable.
Maybe the resistance we feel to the life we mean to be creating for ourselves can just finally reach a tipping point. And we find ourselves in surrender.
Surrender? Isn’t that a bad thing?
Not the ‘roll over and play dead’ kind of surrender. The kind of surrender that doesn’t have the energy for all that exhausting push-pull anymore.
“I’m TIRED of being afraid of it.”
Ruby thinks the ‘it’ that she’s afraid of is the WHOLE of her life, but, really, it’s the amount of 'not knowing’ that goes along with having a life that’s got her so freaked out.
Can you relate to how scary “not knowing” is? Especially in these times we find ourselves in?
Where everything we thought we knew about how the world works is being pulled apart before our very eyes so that it can be put back together — or NOT, as the case may be — in ways that feel like we’re being ushered into a hellscape?
How do we DO what the moment calls for?
On some days — when the news is especially jaw dropping — how do we do anything at all?
How do we get ourselves to the base of the ladder so we can step up in ways we may not want to, but that allows us to discover things about ourselves we never would have otherwise?
Do ‘gorgeous’ and ‘inviting’ seem a little too much to hope for?
Well, that’s the thing about stepping up, you just don’t know what it’s going to give you. And it could be something really good instead of really bad.
Sometimes when my mental health is in need of some TLC because “THE SKY IS FALLING AND WE’RE ALL SO F’ED!!!!” needs some active interruption, I use tapping to arrive at a point of view that’s going to be easier on my nervous system.
How I DO it.
While I’m tapping, I do this little trick of the mind where I pull myself way up and out of my body* and go right up into the sky and look down on myself from up there.
* This is actually a skillful application of being “outside your life”.
And with the perspective that space and distance gives me, I might think something like…
“Life in 2025 has such an ABSURD quality to it… and I happen to be ALIVE for this absurdity??... It’s really quite extraordinary to find myself alive at this critical juncture in history… Hmmmm, I may not be able to do much about what’s happening down there, but maybe I could do SOMETHING… and maybe DOING something would make me feel less hopeless and helpless… What IS IT that I could possibly DO?…”
And then after a little out-of-body musing like that (I’m tapping the whole time), I go back down into my body and I look out through my own eyes again (I’ve stopped tapping by now), and I notice there’s a new perspective, a new feeling, a new energy that’s there.
Does that seem a little too big of a leap?
Well, tapping is amazing at neurtalizing the fight-flight-freeze response, and it’s consistently impressive what can show up when you have a way of bringing yourself out of survival mode, right in the moment it’s blazing through your system.
Coupled with getting good at using your imagination to play with your perspective… I just can’t say enough about it. And it’s not even hard to do!
Being creative with your tapping practice has the power to…
turn The Unknown into the Call To Adventure… that it is!
turn YOU into the Hero… that you are!
turn life into the Heroic Journey… that it is!
Imagine suddenly being able to take all that energy of resistance (that you were using against yourself) and appyling it to what really needs to be resisted?
And imagine it’s done with a lot of love on top! Here’s a picture of me with my sign at the International Women’s Day March earlier this month, sharing that very message…
So let’s tap…
And you know what we’re going to tap IN?
We’re going to tap in the words of an Earth, Wind & Fire song that came on the radio while I was writing this post. I have a client who uses songs as his tapping scripts a lot and it’s very powerful for him.
All you have to do is sing along as you tap through the points. Hell, get funky and tap all over your body as you sing and party along…. and let the tears flow if they come up. It feels so good to cry.
You may want to take a spin through the lyrics first to remind yourself of them (tap on a few points as you read them).
Enjoy!
What an embodiment of the kind of energy this moment calls for!!
That’s the Way of The World
Hearts afire creates love desire
Take you high and higher to the world you belong
Hearts afire creates love desire
High and higher to your place on the throne
We come together on this special day
Sing our message loud and clear
Looking back, we've touched on sorrowful days (well)
Future, past, they disappear
You will find (you fill find) peace of mind (yeah)
If you look way down in your heart and soul
Don't hesitate 'cause the world seems cold
Stay young at heart
Ah, 'cause you're never, never old at heart
That's the way (that's the way)
Of the world (of the world)
Plant your flower (gonna plant your flower)
And you grow a pearl
Child is born with a heart of gold
Way of the world (gonna plant your flower)
Makes his heart so cold
Hearts afire creates love desire
Take you high and higher to the world you belong
Hearts afire, love desire
High and higher
Yeah, yeah, yeah
Hearts afire, love desire
Ah, higher
We've come together on this special day
Sung our message loud and clear
Looking back, we've touched on sorrowful days
While future disappear
You will find (you fill find) peace of mind (eh, eh)
If you look way down in your heart and soul
Ah, don't hesitate
'Cause the world seems cold
Stay young at heart
'Cause ('cause you're never, never, never)
You're never, never, never
That's the way of the world
Plant your flowers and you'll grow a pearl
Child is born (child is born)
With a heart of gold (listen now, with a heart of gold)
Way of the world (way of the world)
Makes his heart so cold (makes his heart so cold)
That love, that love
That love, that love
That love, that love (ooh, yeah)
Never, ah
Well
Ooh, that love, that love, that love, that love
Don't you hear me, now?
Don't you hear me, now?
Lordy, won't you hear me now?
Lordy, won't you hear me now?
Hearts afire (hearts afire)
Love desire (love desire)
High and higher
Yeah, yeah, yeah
Hearts afire
